Firstly, these views do not represent those of my school. They are strictly personal.

Ahlcon Public School conducted it's IT symposium today.I would like to recommend everybody to NOT attend it. Badly conducted, volunteers running here and there and have absolutely no clue about what is going on.

Me : Where is the Sr. Quiz being held
Guy 1 : I don't know. Ask him *Points towards another guy*
Me (To the other guy): Where is the Sr. Quiz being held.
Guy 2 : I have no clue. Ask that Girl
Girl (Before I even asked) : I don't know. Don't ask me anything. I am so stressed. *Ran away*
Me : All of you. If you no idea what's going on. Why are you here
Guy 1 : Yaar, hum toh class miss karne ke liye aaye hai. Teachers bewakoof hai na.

If anyone has ever been to a decent IT Quiz (Exun, Code Wars, CORE, etc.) they would know what to questions to expect. What we got at Ahlcon was far from there. Questions such as recognising the type of a programming code, codename of 'Laptop Core i3 and Desktop Core i7'. "Which of these is not a serial bus?" Yes, you guessed it right, it was an MCQ. I asked one of the volunteers there whether there was any negative marking, and I got a very obvious sounding "No" in reply, turns out there was, so said another student volunteer. (I knew I shouldn't have trusted them). It was the worst quiz by far. I would recommend all to remember the name "Silico Battles" and not attend it ever, unless absolutely necessary.

This doesn't mean the school otherwise is bad. (Which might stand true for a lot of other schools). Well the school is good. I know some people there and they are pretty good people. They just don't know how to conduct an IT symposium or an IT Quiz

After a very successful run from 2001-2005, the ESPN School Quiz is
back as the HDFC Life School Quiz, testing the sporting knowledge of
India's young minds. The HDFC Life School Quiz is open to students from
classes 6 through 10 from schools across the country. The quiz will not
only test skills and knowledge of the participants, but it will also
provide some healthy, high-quality entertainment to a vast nationwide
audience.

As in previous editions of this highly popular quiz, the rounds will
be themed along the lines of the motto of the Olympic Games - Citius,
Altius and Fortius, which is Latin for Faster, Higher Stronger. An apt
motto, as in this modern information age, we expect the sharp young minds
to come at each other with faster reflexes, higher standards and stronger
determination when faced with tight situations, as their teams battle
it out for the title of "India's Top Sports School Quiz Team" for the
year 2012.

THE QUALIFICATION PROCESS

Two-members-per-team format
– please remember to register as a team.

• The written qualifier will be conducted on the 8th of April, 2012 across
the country

• The students, in teams of two, will be required to answer the written
qualifier.

• There is no limit on the number of teams per school taking part in the
written qualifier.

• 72 two-member teams will qualify on 18th of April, 2012>

• These 72 two-member teams participate in the television rounds TBD, teams will be required to travel to Delhi for TV recording during
the 2nd week of May, 2012>

HOW TO REGISTER

Eligibility Criteria

It's very simple – if you're a student between Class VI and Class X
for the 2011-2012 academic year (both classes included), you can appear
on the HDFC Life School Quiz.

How to Register

Contact your school or simply download your registration
form from the
following link and send it to schoolquiz@espnstar.co.in. You can also
register by filling up a form at the venue of the written qualifier.

You will need to provide identification of your school – a letter from
the school stating that you are a bonafide student of that school and
certifying the class you are studying in, or a student identification
card issued by the school.

The class 12th examinees (which luckily/unluckily included me this time) still dont have respite as the horrible entrance exams are going on but guys do try taking out some time for this forum!

I thought, then to create a Mega-Archive or rather a book on Technology. See, Nobody can "Prepare" for a Quiz. Nobody knows what is going to come in a quiz (I mean, I may even ask you the color of Steve Jobs' hair, you can't come prepared for that!). The Ultimate Quizzers Guide To Technology is that very book, whose contents can be scanned through Wikipedia and You Can Gain Knowledge. The NSIT Quiz Fest - 2012

The NSIT Quiz Club brings to you the NSIT Quiz Fest 2012, the fourth edition of our annual quizzing extravaganza. Following the tremendous success of the event last year, we plan to make this year's edition Bigger, Better and, well, Bulkier (on the pocket).

The three-day event will be conducted during 10-12th of February 2012 and will see the best of quizzers competing for prize and pride.
And as every year, this year too, we promise you cash prizes in hand, on the spot.
There will be a total of 11 quizzes spread over the three days - 5 Main quizzes (Prelims+Finals) and 6 Filler Quizzes (Written). The final day of the event i.e 12th February will be an Open Day. We invite teams of two for all quizzes on all days.

The itinerary looks somewhat like this:

3. There are 5 Main Quizzes. They will be in the normal "Prelims+Finals" format.
4. There are 6 Filler Quizzes. 25-30 questions each. All written.
5. Cross-college/school teams are allowed.
6. Each participant should have his/her school/college ID card at the time of the quizzes. On the Open Day however, just showing your face would do.

Also as a run-up to the event, we will conduct an Online Quiz series on the NSIT Quiz Club Blog - www.nsit-qc.blogspot.com starting from the 5th of February to the 9th of February. Details of the same will be posted soon.

ONLINE QUIZ

The Online Quiz, being conducted as a part of the run-up to the NSIT Quiz Fest, will start at 8:00 PM sharp on the NSIT Quiz Club Blog (http://nsit-qc.blogspot.in/) on the 5th of February.
RULES AND REGULATIONS:

5-question sets will be posted everyday till the 9th of February at 8:00PM.
Participation is open to all.
Participants should mail the answers (in a numbered format) to the NSIT Quiz Club at nsitqc@gmail.com anytime in between 8:00 PM on the day of the particular question-set to 6:00 PM the next day. Please do not post the answers in the comments section.
A scorecard will be maintained (which can be viewed by everyone) which will be updated daily accordingly to the marks you obtain out of 5.
After the 5 days, the Top 3 cumulative score-holders will get prizes during the NSIT Quiz Fest. In case the winners are from outside Delhi, the prizes will be mailed to them.

So 5th February, 8:00 PM, you just have to be online, and on the NSIT Quiz Club Blog.

Hi all,

As you know, over the past few weeks we invited for expression of interest from current members who wanted to become moderators. It was heartening to see so many people prepared to dedicate so much effort to gyaan.in. It's time to end the suspense - the moderators have voted and after a period of voting, we agree that the following people should be made moderators...

Congratulations folks! The current moderator team extends a warm welcome them and I'm sure the rest of the gyaan.in community will join us in doing the same. The current moderator will be there to guide you in getting up to speed. The moderators themselves of course can work on the newsletter team too, if they want.

Let me take this opportunity to say something to those who didn't make it - we have great respect for the enthusiasm that you've shown and actually having the courage to stand up and run for a position and run for a position. When we were voting, the things we were looking for the amount of time each candidate had devoted to gyaan.in consistently, but also the past achievements and the experience each candidate had. So please don't be disheartened if you didn't get selected now, because we just want you to gain more experience and be even more successful while enjoying quizzing.

One of our members made a comment a few days ago about gyaan.in stagnating these days. Far from it! From the beginning of this year till now, we have seen a steady and consistent growth in gyaan.in's traffic, in no small measure because of extensive and rich collection of knowledge about quizzing and quiz competitions that the gyaan.in community has contributed.

If you ever feel that you don't find enough new content on the site, then you must ask yourself the question as to why you personally are not contributing to the mix. We have hundreds of members right now, and gyaan.in is what it is because of everyone's efforts - not because of any single person or group of people. gyaan.in is what you make it to be, so make it good.

My advice to the new moderators will be to always try to set an example for others to follow. Ever action you take and every word you say means something unique now, so think about everything twice before doing or saying it. I'm sure you're all responsible people. Make proactive efforts to find information about upcoming events, and make proactive efforts to create content, upload archives, et al - because you are some of the community's most experienced and dedicated members.

Once again, commiserations to those who didn't make it and I hope you interpret this as something you can improve yourself from.

I wish the new moderators all the best with your endeavours!
